History: WALA Medicines and Dr. Hauschka Skin Care.
Dr. Rudolf Hauschka asked the philosopher, Rudolf Steiner what was the meaning of life. Steiner said, “Study rhythm, rhythm is the carrier of life.” Dr. Hauschka went on to develop a unique rhythmic process for botanical extracts capable of remaining stable without using preservatives.
WALA Heilmittel GmbH has been developing natural preparations, WALA Medicines, since 1935. Anthroposophical doctors were one of the main groups to enthusiastically use Dr. Hauschka’s WALA Medicines.
WALA relocated several times before finally establishing itself in the villages of Bad Boll and Eckwälden, Southern Germany in 1950 - where it still remains today. Neighbours were surprised that Rudolf Hauschka set about preparing a site there as a medicinal plant garden. At that time the soil was very poor. Biodynamic agricultural practices turned this boggy place into high quality soil, capable of growing medicinal plants that are healthy, resilient and high vitality. Only the very best botanical ingredients for your skin care.
Complementary skin care
For many years, Dr. Rudolf Hauschka considered launching his own skin care range to complement WALA medicines, to create an extension of the WALA preparations to maintain a healthy and balanced skin.
However, his ideas only became a reality when he met Cosmetologist, Elisabeth Sigmund, who ordered preparations from WALA for her self-developed skin care products she was using on her clients in her clinic in Vienna with remarkable success. Elisabeth, who was at the time living in Stockholm, travelled to WALA and worked with the medicinal experts and pharmacists to develop effective formulations for facial care products. They jointly developed solutions for healthy skin, without using synthetic chemicals, emulsifiers and created fragrance mixes with natural essential oils.
The first products were launched in 1967 and Elisabeth Sigmund trained the first Dr. Hauschka Esthetician in 1971.
Dr. Hauschka skin care remains highly committed to the pioneering spirit of its early days: in 1999, Dr. Hauschka launched a complete make-up range – with natural ingredients and a formulation that provides both colour and care. Make-up that’s an extension to your skin care, and to enhance your natural beauty.
Today, WALA has two divisions: WALA Medicines and Dr. Hauschka Skin Care.
